Martinez Place, Nanaimo, 2021

This carriage house tucks nicely into the yard of the large lot at the end of a cul-de-sac. Another multi-generational, two-home living situation allows for plenty of backyard space left over after we squeezed in this modern, well-appointed carriage house.

With a highly efficient in-floor hydronic heating system, an HRV for fresh, efficient air, polished concrete floors, high ceilings, custom showers, a walk-through closet, galley-style kitchen, and even a bonus loft space, this 980 square foot home has all that you’d ever need.

Island Red Cedar Construction was the second company we spoke to about building a carriage home on a property we had just purchased. Immediately upon meeting Sean, the owner of the company, we found him easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and he relayed to us some great ideas for our project. Once our agreement with Sean was formalized, he assisted us in all the details of the project, from design, engineering, and permits to all aspects of construction and organization and monitoring of all sub-trades.

Seans professionalism isn’t just shown in the quality of his and his team’s work, but also in the relationships he has developed over time with the sub-trades he uses on his projects. Building a home during COVID-19 created many challenges in availability and supply of materials and timing. Sean communicated with us weekly, keeping us informed on timelines, changes in costs, and provided us monthly budget updates.

We are very happy with our new home, the quality of the workmanship, and the detail that went into it. A big thank you to Sean and the team at Island Red Cedar Construction for their efforts on our project, truly an awesome group.
